How to Saute Onions Without Oil
If you are trying to cook your meals low-fat or no-fat, this page is for you! I use this method all the time. It is very easy and you really won't miss the oil. The onions taste great without it.
Simply chop however many onions you need and place in a frying pan. Add water until the onions are almost, but not quite, covered. On medium heat, saute onions until they are the way you want them, whether that' translucent or browned or even caramelized. The trick is not letting the onions dry out. You will most likely have to add water one or a few times until the onions are ready. Also, you want to cook them at a lower heat; sauteing them at a higher heat makes the onions harder to handle and easier to burn.
